A topic that has intrigued me, lately, is the freedom that some companies are giving to their employees - 'allowing' them to explore some topics that interest them (and yet, still benefit the company) and not just menial product-upgrades.It definitely seems that these freedoms (especially the all day hackathons) bring the employees together and allows them to have some fun with their otherwise drab working environment. I ran for office recently Mar 3 2009. City of Los Angeles, council dist 11, a huge west side dist with 250,000 souls in it. Only 21,000 cared enough to vote. I got 5700 votes, 26%, while spending ZERO Dollars! . My opponent, the incumbent, spent $230,000 of someone else's money, The IBEW and other Unions who contributed to him, developers who contributed to him in exchange for what? Yes Votes in city council? Yes votes for their proposed developments? A neighborhood south of BB Hardware ALL grabbed my clipboard with relish to sign it to put me on the ballot!!! In Playa Vista, p[eople grabbed my clipboard to sign it. All I said was , "I'm Craig Wilson, running for city council... " They grabbed my petition to sign it!!! This in a very Liberal, Commie pinko, socialist West LA , left coast area!!! I am very Conservative, but I do wish people did not live in cardboard boxes, I do wish all could get dental care, medical care, but You Have to Work!!! As a patriotic American, one who served his country with pride and who now owns his own lucrative enterprise, I find the short-sightedness, pessimism, prejudice and ignorance of many Americans- liberal, conservative or otherwise appalling. Whatever happened to "moderation in ALL things?" The fact that Americans are so blind and oblivious is quite disheartening. Trust me this indictment includes every president since Carter and many before him, most surprisingly were Republicans. Even when guided by blatant lies, and having our country run like a giant pyramid scheme, and with all the evidence in the world that G.W. played this country and the world like a banjo, the clueless still want a neo-fascist world. This is a new century. We are in a global, connected community. This longing for the 1950s had to die. It is dead. You will not resurrect that bogus ideal, no mater how much you try.
All this fumbling and mumbling about what fail means is getting tiring. All this mumbo jumbo about what the American people think or do not think is equally tiresome.
The average American doesn't have a clue what is going on in their own community let alone Washington. They are so engulfed in their everyday mundane life or sports, or shopping, or whatever captures their thinking for a short time that they only know what they occasionally see on TV or read in some local rag.
If the country is visibly free from any major conflicts and the average Joe has his daily needs addressed fairly adequately he couldn't care less who was in the White House or any other political office. The fact that a majority of eligible voters never take the time to vote regardless what the political climate is pretty well says it all. Obama didn't get elected because he had anything to offer, or because a majority of voters "LOVED' him, he got elected by stealth and deceit and the basic ignorance of the average voter.

It has gotten so bad that all the true conservatives I know have all lost faith in a plausible reformation of a true conservative movement. Few if any "conservative" politicians care enough about moral standards and fiscal responsibility anymore to warrant any faith. I feel betrayed by even my local elected officials, and I live in a very conservative community.
I've flirted with leaving the Republican party in favor of the Constitution Party, but there foreign policies are just plain fanatical and their membership far too few. Cannot we bring the libertarian fiscal policy back into the republican party? Back into the country? If not then our despair seems rational.
I do have hope in one thing, that when we fall we hit bottom so that we can build again, so that we can at least have fiscal conservatism/freedom back.

The problem with conservatives and trying to "upscale" the delivery of their message is that conservatives don't respond well to reason and thought. Conservatives respond only with the reptilian brain, fear and loud noise motivates you. Fear worked for you for awhile, but Americans are stronger than you gave them credit for and it is why you were disowned in the last election. You are trailer-trash and that is why fox news, rush limbaugh and sean hannity loves you. You are easily manipulated by anger and fear.
There actually is a good upscale conservative radio personality. He is Dennis Miller. While his syndicated show spends a fair amount of time on entertainment and sports, there is also a lot of politics. Miller is not exactly a social conservative (abortion, gay marriage) but he is very strong on defense, Iraq and small government. And he argues his positions with gracious respect for all other opinions.

Conservatism has failed the concept of capitalism, and once again liberals have been called upon to fix the mess. You're right. The Revolution that began in 1789 was inspired by the Revolution of 1776; now, it has returned to haunt us. This Red Tide of humanism and materialism can't be stopped; its agents own the media, and to the average person, media is reality.
