With the 07 campaign cycle under way, the campaign ads are slowly starting to trickle into the television sets of America. With this in mind, I think of 1984. That year, in my opinion, Americans witnessed the greatest ad campaign of all time. The Reagan 84 campaign was a largely optimistic and positive campaign. It pulled on the heartstrings of Americans and no doubt contributed to one of the greatest victories in political history. Here are a few gems from 84 with comments.
Inflation - Typical of the ads from the 84 Reagan campaign, this one uses great visuals and a strong message to hammer its point across. All the ads from Reagan 84 use visuals to represent the strength of America.
Foreign Policy - Strong and powerful ad.
The Bear- One of the few 'scare tactic' ads from the campaign. It does however get its point across. Even an optimistic and upbeat campaign needs one of these ads.
Train - -
An ad which really uses nostalgia effectively. It reminds us of a foregone era in American politics while pointing out to us that 'we are living in a historical time led by a truly remarkable leader'. Great ad
.
Peace- We won the Cold War by following this message.
Its Morning Again in America- - The greatest political ad of all time. It is positive, it is strong and it is uplifting. Everything a great ad should be. I dare anyone to develop a better political ad.
