The Right Angle

The Science is Settled On Global Warming?

We all know that only oil company shills and lunatics dare to question the four point orthodoxy of global warming:

1) The Earth is warming in an unprecedented fashion

2) This warming is entirely manmade

3) This warming will soon accelerate to a level approximating "Instant Karma"

4) Warming is bad

All real scientists know better than to question the models that say such -whether they be mathematical or fashion models. Unfortunately, there are still some fringe scientists at backwater institutions that haven't got with the mantra yet -like Dr. Richard Lindzen, the Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Meteorology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (which I believe is the community college for the Cambridge area). Lindzen has an excellent piece in Newsweek's forthcoming issue in which he manages to question all four pillars of wisdom at once. His inbox must be filling up already with the diatribes of real experts.

I'll ask this again.. just trying to get a grasp on righty though process:

PREEMPTIVE WAR with another country in which hundreds of thousands of people die, based on absolutely zero facts/factual information = OK

PREEMPTIVE changes in some of our living habits to save our environment for future generations based on a concensus of global scientists = ALARMIST

Another example of why the right is WRONG (and stupid, and dangerous, and blind, and ridiculous.. etc...)

What about the merits of the article, NeoCon? And what does the Iraq war (or are you talking about Kosovo?) have to do with it?

It would help out tremendously if you would stay on topic. Perhaps you wouldn't be ignored as much. ...and maybe then you wouldn't have to resort to invective to get your point across. Just a thought.

2,500 scientists all agree on the issue of man causing a big part of global warming. That is a consensus. Just because the same four scientists that the right pulls out disagrees does not make it so. It may not be made up in their minds, but it certainly is in nearly all other scientists. Look at that report. Who were the only ones trying to get them to "soften" the report. Policy makers tyring to lessen the political impact.

Let me ask you this, and the first commenter makes a point, allthough it is off topic. If pre-emption is the policy to keep America safe, then why not try to lessen the impact that humans have on the environment? If this report is totally wrong, you'll have bragging rights to strut around, but at least we will be using more alternative sources of fuel and lessen our dependence on foreign oil. But if we're right... well, then we did the right thing.

happywash - exactly right... on the money. While my point may seem a bit off topic, I was trying to highlight a larger point - that the double standards of the right are horrifically backward. And you sort of reiterated my point for me in the last paragraph of your post.. to me, that's the larger point here. I can't understand why righties absolutely foam at the mouth when it comes to global warming.. when making the necessary changes in policy and daily living is a WIN WIN situation for everybody! It blows my mind.

happywash, 2,500 scientists DON'T agree on ANYTHING in the IPCC report. That number includes everyone that contributed a single comment to the panel. One of them has filed a lawsuit to force them to remove his name form the report. Do a search for "Global Warming Swindle". It is a BBC documentary available on YouTube where that scentist and about a dozen others will tell you exatly why they disagree.

As for 'consensus' 300 or so years ago, a scientist was branded a heritic for claiming the earth was round, not flat. Just because EVERYONE believe something does not make it true. Show me the evedince.
