Mr. Biden is equally skeptical—albeit in a slightly more backhanded way—about Mr. Obama. “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” he said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”
Hugh Hewitt wonders what would happen if Rush Limbaugh made this comment.
Hawken opines, "Is Biden crazy? Does he truthfully believe that an African-American would possibly vote for him after he stated that Obama is the first 'articulate' and 'CLEAN' !!?? black man?"
The Corner'sYuval Levin adds: "The first mainstream African American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy? Just what is he saying about every other “mainstream African American”? (And just what does that mean anyway?) You have to imagine Biden was letting his mouth run ahead of his brain, and it doesn’t take much to imagine Biden doing that. But on the other hand, perhaps only someone foolish enough to believe such a thing could also be foolish enough to say it."
RedState'sMike Krempasky is shocked: "Can there be anything more insulting than praising an African-American as "articulate" with the presumption that you're contrasting your subject with others of the same color? I mean, come on now - how tin-eared is that? (reminds me of remarking about their proficiency at swimming...)"
The Bellows' thinks Biden may quit the 2008 race in record time! HolyCoast'sRick Moore concurs.
Elites to Anti-Affirmative-Action Voters: Drop Dead
Heather Mac Donald in the City Journal writes about how liberal and GOP elites has ignored the anti-affirmative action movement:
...for all the evasions of the political and educational elites, the growing anti-preference push, with initiatives contemplated in several more states in 2008, could be one of the most important populist movements of recent years. Racial manipulation, while not eliminated from California, has been greatly reduced, a sea change that never would have happened without Prop. 209. One goal of the movement—the elimination of the academic achievement gap by setting a single standard of achievement for all to meet—remains elusive. But Ward Connerly’s courageous pursuit of a government that ignores race is delivering on the most fundamental promise of the American Constitution: equal treatment for all.
Michelle Malkin notes that the leader of movement for equal treatment for all is Ward Connerly, a courageous activist who has been shamefully treated by liberals and some Republicans.
The Influence Peddler provides the White House memos about the White House's battle plans for earmark reforms.
The Club for Growth'sAndrew Roth opines, "This is a good follow through on what the President said in his State of the Union speech."
Cut and Run Hagel
GOPProgress'Liz Mair makes a good point which is difficult for conservatives to concede: Senator Hagel is not a liberal:
After checking out what's going on on other righty blogs today, I feel compelled to post something about this increased tendency of just about everyone to call Chuck Hagel a liberal.
I get that a lot of righty bloggers are mighty pissed off at Hagel right now because he's dominating the airwaves bashing the President's plan and generally playing the role of irritating gadfly.
But righty bloggers should get a clue and recognize that a guy with a 96% 2005 rating from ACU, an 87% 2004 rating from ACU, a 95% 2006 rating from ATR, a 100% 2005 rating from ATR, a 79% rating for 2005 from NTU, and a 75% rating for 2004 from NTU, is not a liberal.
