Conservative bloggers just held a conference call to discuss the House leadership elections. While no official endorsements were made, several bloggers voiced opposition to the failed policies of the current leadership team of Representatives
John Boehner (R.-Ohio) and
Roy Blunt (R.-Mo.).
Consensus is quickly forming around Rep.
Mike Pence (R.-Ind.) for minority leader and Rep.
John Shadegg (R.-Ariz.) for minority whip.
HUMAN EVENTS has already offered an
endorsement for Pence and we were the first to
support Shadegg for his majority leader race earlier this year. Later today we'll be posting a Podcast with Shadegg about his priorities as whip.
Well-known conservative blogs
RedState and
Outside the Beltway are supporting the reform ticket of Pence and Shadegg.
Mary Katharine Ham at
Townhall is in Pence's court, too.
Many more conservative bloggers will be jumping on the bandwagon. Will you? It's important to do so now. Offering your support to Pence and Shadegg today (as opposed to sometime next week) will help them build the momentum they need to secure support from their colleagues.
Both Boehner and Blunt are skilled at this game. However, the big-government policies
they have supported in the past will not fly in this day and age.
Don't delay, support Pence and Shadegg today!
UPDATE -- 1:42 p.m.: Yesterday at the
Truth Laid Bear,
N.Z. Bear made an excellent point about the role bloggers can play in the GOP leadership elections.
Endorsements are certainly one way to influence the process, but I also hope the candidates -- Boehner, Pence, Blunt and Shadegg -- will agree to interviews with bloggers. Doing so will provide an important new constituency with an opportunity to ask tough questions. Blogger conference calls that took place earlier this year with the candidates for Republican majority leader were an important step reaching out to new media.
UPDATE -- 1:50 p.m.: I forgot to acknowledge the participants in today's call, who included organizer
