E-Day is just one week from today ...

Right Angle's Rob Bluey sat down with Majority Leader John Boehner the other day to discuss the midterms. According to Boehner: "we knew this when George Bush was re-elected in ’04—that the midterm election for the President’s party during the sixth year of that presidency, the average loss for the last 150 years is 41 seats. We knew history was working against us. And so, we’ve worked hard."

Paul Chesser of Am Spec Blog notes that Charlie Cook yesterday predicted losses of 20 to 35 seats for the GOP in the House and five or six Senate seats. According to Chesser: "One huge issue that Cook is ignoring, that was a non-factor in 1994: national security. That could make up the difference for Republicans."

A GHOULISH SCENARIO: Evangelicals bolting the GOP?

Patrick Hynes of Ankle Biting Pundits points out the bogus nature of the recent articles about how Evangelicals are supposedly bolting from the GOP: "The poll reference in the article ... actually had nothing to do with religion in public life ..." Hynes also notes the poll in question had, "No mention of evangelicals at all." Hynes adds: "Besides, Pew conducted the survey between October 19 and October 22; a full three days before the New Jersey Supreme Court ordered the New Jersey legislature to legalize gay marriage. And we all know how that decision has impacted the attitudes of conservative Christians."

Steele gets endorsed

Ken Shepherd at Right Angle notes that Maryland GOP Senate hopeful Lt. Governor Michael Steele was endorsed yesterday by "former Prince George's county executive Wayne Curry (D) and five current Democratic County Council members."

This flier is like the "razor-blade in the apple" urban myth. Pops up every year ...

Granddaddy Long Legs warns: "We have about a week to go until the election. Sometime at the end of this week, just in time for the Sunday news programs, a flyer with false voter information will make the news." The flyers will likely say something such as: "Voters awaiting trials/suspected of committing crimes/late on child support payments/have unpaid parking tickets/etc... should be prepared to talk with police before voting."

Go to school ... or go to Iraq!

Michelle Malkin quotes John Kerry speaking at an event in California for Phil Angelides: “You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.” Jonah Goldberg at The Corner writes, "that's an idiotic thing for Kerry to say — and repugnant too. It goes way near the top of my 12 trillion reasons why John Kerry will never be president of the United States." Captain's Quarters opines: "How would these people react to taking orders from a Commander-in-Chief who believes them to be uneducated, lazy losers?"

Walking into spider Webbs ...

Allison Kasic at InkWell writes that Jim Webb "made his writing a campaign issue," and that George Allen’s campaign "looked at the content ... And, boy did they find some creepy stuff."

The public and the war

Philip Klein at AmSpec Blog doesn't believe the "electorate has become as anti-war as the media would have us believe." As evidence, he points to Ned Lamont. "In a race that was billed as a referendum on the Iraq War, Lamont barely won a Democratic primary against Lieberman, who is unabashedly pro-war. Lieberman has not backed off his support for the war, and yet, by all indications, is crushing Lamont in a blue state that Kerry won by 10 points in 2004."

Mehlman to join Rudy team?

Daniel McKivergan of The Weekly Standard blog reports: "The Washington Post's Kathleen Parker told NBC's Chris Matthews on Sunday that RNC Chair Ken Mehlman “is going to be leaving the National Republican Committee, possibly heading over to the Giuliani camp.” That would be big news."

McCain/Feingold made things better?

Captain's Quarters looks at the midterm elections to determine how campaign finance reform is working: "John McCain and Russ Feingold sold America a bill of goods. Restricting free speech did not free us from checkbook politics; in fact, it made the problem worse by allowing it to hide behind these so-called advocacy groups."

Check this out ...

Hi there. Great idea. I visit these sites regularly, and they are very good choices. I was just wondering if you are ever going to give some us little people a look over?

I am listed as My Newz 'n Ideas, and I run a newspaper named Knicerbocker News. I have others, but I do not believe they are political.

Of course the newspaper isn't either, but I go out of my way to try to find news that is not reported anywhere in America. (Such as Pakistan, China, Asia, Africa, S. America, etc.)

You are doing very good job, and thank you for this! Keep up the good work.
