Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich won the
HUMAN EVENTS Presidential Straw Poll for September, topping the list for the second month in a row. For a number of months, Gingrich trailed Rep. Tom Tancredo (R.-Colo.) but now has a firmed lead with 31.79% of the vote to Tancredo's 17.46%.
Rounding out the top five slots are former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (8.61%), George Allen (8.58%), and Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (7.96%). One-time HE poll leader, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice dropped to sixth place with 6.68%, occupying her lowest slot in the monthly tracking poll since it began earlier this year.
