After a Year, Bolivians Already Sick of Socialism

So how's Bolivia doing since last year's election of Hugo Chavez's crony, Evo Morales?

Morales has lived up to many of his radical campaign promises: he nationalized the country's energy sector, joined an anti-American alliance with Venezuela and Cuba, and convened a constituent assembly meant to write socialism into Bolivia's constitution.

Bolivia, somewhat unsurprisingly, is now embroiled in widespread civil strife. Pro-government goons have moved in to restive areas to try to suppress a general strike. Meanwhile, the country's most productive regions are increasingly vocal about their desire to secede from Morales' workers' paradise.

If the resurgent opposition overthrows Morales, I wonder if Chavez would just stand by and let it happen...

I have been to Santa Cruz, Bolivia. It is a vibrant entrepreneurial city and province in eastern Bolivia. No wonder that they want to cecede from the western primitive Andean tin miners. Santa Cruz would be better off becoming part of bordering Brazil with whom they already have done and continue to do most of their trade with.
