President Bush has a new neighbor moving out near his ranch in Crawford, Texas -- none other than the anti-war wingbat,
Code Pink faster Cindy Sheehan.
The way
the AP tells it, Sheehan's protest outside the ranch last year is what "reinvigorated" the anti-war movement -- right. Sheehan IS the anti-war movement. Now she's decided to use insurance money from her son's death to purchase a 5-acre plot of her own on which to hold Camp Casey III. (One wonders how little Cindy Lou possibly has the energy to set up camp when she's been
fasting so steadily for so long?)
In the Gold Star Families For Peace newsletter sent out today Cindy explains:
With our commitment to being in Crawford every time that George goes on vacation (even though he seems to be skipping out on us a lot lately) we decided to buy property in Crawford to use until George's resignation or impeachment--which we all hope is soon for the sake of the world.
According to the AP, the group won't get much time with Bush this year:
[Sheehan's] anti-war gathering in Crawford is scheduled for Aug. 16 through Sept. 2. But Bush is scheduled to be at his ranch mainly during the first two weeks of August
.
Apparently Sheehan didn't appreciate the country life much at first, but now it's really grown on the California native, or so she says:
I never understood how George Bush could pick such a place as Crawford to have his home. When I first arrived and set up camp there last August 6 th, I had even bigger misgivings…but now after spending an entire year there in every season, I totally understand. I even get upset now when people put Crawford down in any way---but these are people who have never been there.
Crawford is a beautiful place and Camp Casey has made it even lovelier. I feel so at home there. When I am able to return, I feel a renewal and resurgence of energy and hope. The sunrises and sunsets and star-lit nights are breathtaking and there is nothing like a cool (if rare) Crawford evening breeze to dry off the sweat and sweeten the soul.
In closing, Cindy claims to have scared the most powerful man in the world notwithstanding Camp Casey's "peaceful" nature:
[W]e are beginning to believe that he is frightened of us. It can't be because we are a physical threat to him: We have proven to be peaceful and non-violent--so it must be that he is afraid of the truth and too cowardly to, again, face grieving families and thousands of others who adamantly oppose his murderous policies.
If Bush really is avoiding Crawford because of Cindy and her crazy crew, it's because the man is just plain smart, not scared. Of course, it's hard to believe the president pays much attention to her in the first place...
And of course Cindy is still demanding another meeting with Bush. But of course! Even though most of us will never have the chance to meet with the president of the United States, her majesty, Princess Cindy, should be able to do so whenever her little heart desires.
