Although Hillary is giving Sen. Lieberman the
cold shoulder, several of her fellow Senate Democrats are rushing to Joe’s defense. This includes Sens. Joe Biden, Barbara Boxer and Ken Salazar, who say they are going to campaign for their Connecticut colleague. Granted, they say they plan to campaign for Lieberman sometime between now and his August 8th primary, implying that they - like Hillary – won’t support a potential Independent bid. But unlike Hillary, at least they are going out of their way to help Lieberman, despite the fact that he strongly supports the war in Iraq.
While Sen. Clinton says she supports Lieberman’s Democratic candidacy in theory, and
her HILLPAC has
given $10,000 to his re-election campaign (as her PAC gave to all Democratic Senate candidates in cycle), an appearance in the state on his behalf would speak volumes, especially to the antiwar segment of the party. We will be watching Hillary closely to see if a 30-year friendship warrants a visit in the next few weeks.
