SHOT Show 2013 recap
The threat of protesters was laughable, as I only managed to find about 10 standing outside one morning.
New Guns for the New Year
When this is published, I will be at the SHOT Show, seeing, learning about and even shooting some of the amazing new things that are scheduled to be released in 2013.
Folding rifles in pistol calibers
Probably the most interesting feature of the carbine, is that it can fold in half. I do not mean that the stock folds, I mean the whole gun folds in half. When you pull down on the trigger guard, you can rotate the front half of the carbine back onto itself, so that the front sight rests on top of the buttstock. This makes it darn handy for carrying around.
Self-defense in non-permissive environments
Spree killers, also known less-accurately as “active shooters,” tend to be cowards, and as such they will gravitate toward areas they believe less likely to be able to stop them. Areas like gun free zones.
Mighty Roar of the Mousy .22
I’ve never walked out of the house carrying a .22 as a self defense gun. I hope I never have to. But, I can foresee certain circumstances under which I would. What if I was struck by an illness that simply left me so weak that I couldn’t tame the relatively mild recoil of a 9mm?
New guns, gear for 2013
Israel Weapon Indistries (IWI) recently formed a US-based company (IWI US) that is working on bringing a civilian version of the TAVOR bullpup rifle to the market. The original TAVOR is a select fire assault rifle used by the Israeli military.
In all of these situations, off-body carry might be a better choice for taking a handgun with you. Generally speaking, off body carry allows for greater concealment of the firearm. But, there are downsides to off body carry.
SHOT Show Survival Guide
The general public is not admitted into the SHOT Show. But, if you are attached to the gun industry, you can certainly obtain credentials and attend. The show is huge with tens of thousands of attendees and about 1,600 exhibitors. While it can be overwhelming, there are an abundance of opportunities for the business-minded.
The combat shotgun
The pump shotgun is a system that is combat proven. For more than 100 years, law enforcement and the military have used scatterguns in every conceivable way and they have excelled.
Guns, rumors of guns: What we might and will see in 2013
SIG SMG – If you allow me to double-dip into the SIG Sauer realm, I can tell you about their new submachine gun. Yes, I said submachine gun. The unnamed subgun looks to be very exciting and there will be civilian legal versions available for purchase.
