Watts Won't Seek Okla. Governor's Office

The AP reports on disappointing news from Oklahoma. Former Rep. J.C. Watts won't make the run for governor next year, which would have solidified 2006 as the "year of the black Republicans" (credit goes to Dave Freddoso at the Evans-Novak Political Report for noting this in today's issue). Here are a few of the candidates:

  • Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele (candidate for U.S. Senate)
  • New York Secretary of State Randy Daniels (candidate for governor)
  • Former Pittsburgh Steelers star Lynn Swann (candidate for Pa. governor)
  • Former Detroit councilman Rev. Keith Butler (candidate for U.S. Senate)
  • And my personal favorite, Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell (candidate for governor)
