Ann Coulter Letter

Why Larry King Will Never Be President

Like would-be yentas trying to set you up on dates with their divorced friends, the political class is constantly trying to foist divorced candidates on the Republican Party, authoritatively assuring us that Americans don’t have a problem with divorce anymore. Let’s examine the truth of that claim.

Inasmuch as no serious Republican candidate for president is currently divorced, the facts can be considered without violating the 11th Commandment to never speak ill of a fellow Republican.

(That’s unless you consider Newt Gingrich a serious candidate, which I don’t — although as far as being fodder for late-night comedians, he’s the man to beat.)

We’re always being chirpily informed, as an article in The New York Times put it, that when it comes to the presidency, “(d)ivorce, of course, is old hat.”

But strangely, all the prominent divorced politicians listed to prove that point are the losers: John McCain, John Kerry, Bob Dole, Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson, Chris Dodd — all the way back to Adlai Stevenson.

In fact, there’s only one exception to the rule that Americans don’t want a divorced president: Ronald Reagan.

Although Reagan is always cited as if he broke the divorce barrier in presidential elections the same way Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in major league baseball, this would be true only if Jackie Robinson: (1) were also the last black person ever to play professional baseball; and (2) no one knew he was black, something like Bryant Gumbel.

Many voters didn’t even realize Reagan was divorced. And if they knew, then they also knew that Reagan’s wife left him against his wishes — according to their children, their friends, and newspaper headlines at the time that blared: “JANE WYMAN TO ASK DIVORCE.”

That’s a far cry from Bob Dole coming home and announcing to his stunned wife of 23 years, “I want out.”

It’s also a far cry from John McCain catting around on, and then divorcing, the wife who waited for him for 5 1/2 years while he was in a POW camp. While he was gone, she got in a car accident, which resulted in her losing inches off her model-height as well as her svelte figure.

It’s a long way from Newt giving his first wife divorce papers as she was in the hospital recovering from surgery on a potentially cancerous tumor and then turning around and cheating on his second wife.

Those divorces are deeply depressing. None of us want to be reminded of the sadness of divorce, the wounded children and the lonely ex-spouse every time we have to listen to our president give a speech.

Contradicting the endless New York Times articles celebrating “the new American family,” “blended families” and “quasi marriages,” a recent census report says that only 12 percent of Americans will be married as many as two times in their entire lives. Only 3 percent will be married three or more times.

(The “one of every two marriages will end in divorce” canard comes from comparing the number of marriages in a given year to the number of divorces that same year — but the divorces could be from any of the millions of marriages consummated in the prior several decades. Serial divorcers also bring the “average” divorce rate way up.)

So why does James Traub, writing for The New York Times, describe the “Rob and Laura Petrie” model of the Bush family as “a return to an increasingly abnormal ‘normalcy’”? To the contrary, after peaking in the late ’70s, divorce is, again, increasingly abnormal.

One gets the impression that a lot of reporters are fantasizing about divorcing their wives, so eager are they to make divorce sound as American as apple pie. Deviants always try to exaggerate their numbers so as to not feel quite so deviant. Ask any Ron Paul supporter.

What newspaper writers tell us about the “more contemporary tableau of family life” — as Traub put it — doesn’t jibe with either the facts about how often Americans divorce or how likely people are to vote for a divorced man for president.

Amazingly, a recent article in The New York Times by Sheryl Gay Stolberg cheerfully proclaimed that “Americans long ago moved past divorce as a political non-starter” — in the very same paragraph in which she cited a recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finding that half of all voters would have a problem with a candidate who had multiple marriages.

Half! And that’s what the public is willing to tell pollsters.

So why do so many Republicans who think they should be president come from the small category of repeat marriers? Only 12 percent of the entire population has been married as much as twice, but about 50 percent of Republican candidates for president have been married at least twice.

Can’t we nip this trend in the bud before losing another election with a candidate who’s a prima facie loser?

Luckily, Chris Christie, Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain are all happily married to one, and only one, spouse. But please keep these statistics in mind during the next Republican primary so we don’t have to keep pretending to take seriously candidates like Newt Gingrich, Fred Thompson and Rudy Giuliani.

  • Paul Earth A.D.

So how’s that Hopey Changey thing workin’ out for you?

Hey, I didn’t for the the idiot.

I already knew,(even though I had hoped otherwise) that his presidency, due to his radical leftist/socialist/Marxist ideology, inexperience, and poor decision making abilities; was going to be disastrous for America. I just didn’t know it was going to be this bad and this rapid.

I’m well and hope the same for you Dave.

    Good afternoon!

  • ^TDO^

    Hey Paul,

    I’m fine,  How R U?

I’ve been in and out the last week or so with stuff at home and doing a massive upgrade to my computer, so it took a while to get back to you, sorry.

  • Paul Earth A.D.

The main squall line that came by had weakened a little so it wasn’t as bad as many of the earlier storms. It was a beautiful light show though. But at the same time, only added to more damage and flooding.

  • ^TDO^

And now Heinz is closing 5 factories.  I wonder what John Kerry will have to say about the growing economy now.

  • ^TDO^

Hey LeAnn, how R U Today?

  • Paul Earth A.D.

He’ll just continue lying -as usual – The typical Democratic position.

  • westoast

    Hi LeAnn.

  • mommd

People who vote for liberals get, as you say, lying egocentric frauds for representatives.  Ann’s book “Treason” documents that.
Hope we can avoid that next round.  Be nice to have a president pretty unencumbered with personal problems or with fragile personal ego who can and will devote time and creative thought to getting the US back on the right track.
As for me, i don’t want a divorced president.

  • ^TDO^

Yeah, but the wife is losing money.  Maybe he’ll divorce her.

  • Paul Earth A.D.

    No problem.

I’m good, I’m hoping to get some upgrades myself.

  • riverdave

I’d have to look through this machine but I have a video someone shot of POTUS Bush and Laura in the Dallas airport welcoming home troops. This is after leaving office and he is not running for anything and he did not have a camera crew in tow. [a citizen filmed it.]

I remember both him {W} and his father {H.W.} going to Iraq to have Thanksgiving dinner with the men and women serving there.

Where was O’Bambi ????? Well he and Michelle flew to NY and ate lobster.

Laura Bush was here in Kentucky yesterday at a couple of school library’s reading to children and encouraging them  to read more.

Michelle was dipping lobster in butter while in Europe watching her hubby make a fool of America and telling US not to serve fried food to our chubby children.

WE MUST get this skinny fraud out of our White House!

And he needs to take his little dog with him. [and I guess he should take that Portuguese water poodle as well. sorry about your luck, Bo.]

  • Sweetrae aka: LeAnn

That’s just wrong on so many levels.

  • classiclover

Although a Libertarian, I don’t think Dr Paul has the charisma to be elected President.  I don’t know what Ann thinks of him and hope her remark is not an indication that she does not agree with his policies, war on terror excepted.  This is the only area where I may disagree with him.  Right now we’re so broke that we may have to rethink the war on terrorism anyway.

Since I realize that Dr Paul doesn’t have a chance, I’m supporting Herman who I think does have a chance.  He’s honest and NO RINO!  Besides, I just like him.  We both agree with the Godfather and pray that Obama’s policies fail, else we’re on our way to 3rd world nation status.

Michael Medved can be very disgusting, but sometimes he makes some really good points.  I DO NOT consider him a conservative.

Lastly, I spent some time in the Libertarian Party, and there certainly were a few weirdos.  However, they had no effect on my love of freedom or desire to fight for it.

I can live with that. But then the candidates I am pulling for have solid
    values and solid marriages.

I do understand what you are saying but I would rather have a divorced

  • Sweetrae aka: LeAnn

I’ve seen those pictures of Bush and Mrs. Bush greeting the service men and women returning home. That was at Dallas/Ft. Worth airport I believe. Did you also see the pictures of them going to visit the injured sevicemen after Dr. terrorist had his shooting spree? I wish someone would have blown that SOB’s head off.

I have a surprise for ya. The Disqus team are from San Francisco.

  • westoast

I am learning to use the internet better and learning in general. Posting here has been a lot like school to me in a couple of different ways.
I am also trying hard not to fall to the level of adversaries who shout from the gutter. It is easy to type something at someone that you would never say in public. I try to keep that in mind.
I am open to advice from those who know the ropes better. In fact that is one of the things I am looking for here.

  • 1LonesomeDove1

I refreshed the page, and now they’re everywhere. I think I have one in my ashtray (sigh).

  • ^TDO^

LOL, I don’t even have ashtrays anymore.

When we quit smoking 5 years ago, the wife turned into a cigarette nazi.  None were allowed in the house at all, LOL, and all our kids smoked.

To make sure, she threw all the ashtrays away.

I wonder if they could be from south of the border. I have seen day workers sabotage projects purposely to squeeze some more work out them.

  • under_1perfectredumbrella

Well they are paid to follow a certain paradigm set by the owners of the site.

Outside of my frustration to find the current open conversation, and that the thread sometimes makes no sense, It is not quite the insane asylum it was when I decided to not post here for a  very long time.

  • ^TDO^

The problem with the insults on these forums is that they are so childish.  You and Jas destroy them with well thought out digs and they come back with schoolyard garbage.  Most of them are sooooooo boring.

  • 1LonesomeDove1

     Maybe, LOL!

No, I did a little exploring and took a look at the Disqus team’s individual profiles.

They’re from the liberal capitol of the world, wouldn’t ya know.

Most of the insults hurled at us are of the ‘You’re gay’, or ‘You’re Jewish’, or some bathroom expletive.

I always find the gay ones the most hysterical.  They are usually thrown at us by gays themselves.  “I know i am and so are you”.  LOL  They just don’t get it.

  • 1LonesomeDove1

I still wonder if they’re causing the mischief on purpose. I know there are programs that can alert someone with keywords that could aid them in making things more difficult for certain posters.

That, and the fact that I know that Human Events is a “republican” web site more so than a “conservative” web site, and I’m not so sure they’re our friends.

  • ^TDO^

Ah but Red, don’t you know.  Berger was a Jew.

Make it legal.  Then it is moral.

    That’s how they think.

  • 1LonesomeDove1

That, and from the first attack upon your intelligence…they’re really saying they’re afraid of you. Attacking your intelligence is the act of scared children whistling in the dark thinking they’ll scare the boogie man away.

I am going to be leaving in a couple of minutes Mel.

I’ll look for you on chat around noon, OK?

I wore out a dvd.  I used to go to a bunch of seminars/classes for a software package in the 70′s and 80′s.  One of the perks was that it was in NYC and they would have tickets for broadway plays.

I got to see Jesus Christ Superstar with the original cast and I got to see Zero Mostel as Tevye.

  • ^TDO^

    That also fits, LOL.

I can’t believe they let that cesspool infect this site.

  • under_1perfectredumbrella

They have always been here, there were here when I first came to Human Events.

  • ^TDO^

NO. Mel was commenting on the ‘lack’ of trolls this evening.

The problem is that commenting on the fact is like saying:

    Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice…

  • ^TDO^

    Yeah,

    I heard that.

I will get in trouble again, but she can’t win.  Too much baggage for the independents to take her seriously.

  • Sweetrae aka: LeAnn

    Hi WT

  • deeme

Hey guys hope you all have a Happy Memorial Day, I was trying to catch up but there are too many posts , two things struck me, first You know how you get those emails where people say you will be surprised by people who you will be in heaven with, well I don’t even know if I will be there, but if Soothsayer is there I will know the same thing that is happening on Earth is happening in heaven..Or I didn’t make it there..
The other was to you guys who have been married before., My beautiful brother is going for number three, he is just not very good at picking mates, he asked me what he should look for , I said well they could at least believe in God , and be warm and sensitive. I love warm people. I said you know the nurse you were married to , well at Christmas when we were all sittting around the table about to eat , you said you had a headache and she said is blood gushing from your head, and you said no and she said , well I don’t care then. , and my sis and me ran into the kitchen because we both could not hold in our laughter ..That’s not a good sign bro…My point is not all of us get lucky, I would never forgive certain things that is in my nature, I have a best friend who forgave her mate for cheating and I even dreamed she was with someone else warm and funny and now I have to forgive him and this isn’t the first time. I can’t do it.. I guess that makes me a bad person and maybe that’s what I love about her she can forgive..

  • ^TDO^

    They bathe????????????

I always thought when they arrived it smelled like a paris bus during the friday rush.

  • Sweetrae aka: LeAnn

That’s my fear too. Plus you know they will throw out the fact that she resigned as governor and the vicious attacks on her family.

  • westoast

One of the idjuts next door was talking about coming over. I told him we’d set up a childrens table.

  • under_1perfectredumbrella

I do not think she will run, not until the last little one is a bit older

  • ^TDO^

    Deeme.

I found a simple formula.  It is the first time I’ve done it and it has gotten me to stay with the same women for almost 18 years now.

Forget about love.  (The male version).  “Like” is so much more important.  My wife and I fell in like before we fell in love.

  • 1LonesomeDove1

Reminds me of the Jimmy Stewart movie, Shenendoah…..remember?

  • Sweetrae aka: LeAnn

That’s what I was thinking, because her little boy Trig (cute as heck) will really need Mommy and Daddy during the next few years, and we know the vermin will attack him too.

  • ^TDO^

I think if she stays on the national stage, gets to be a ‘stateswoman’ for a few years, she may become formidable, unbeatable.  They can assign some of the mistakes she has been accused of to youth.

But in 2012, she has no chance at all.

  • under_1perfectredumbrella

    And she likes being rogue.

I heard today that they bought a 2MM place in AZ puts her in the lower 48 and a more reasonable time zone.

  • ^TDO^

I don’t know what you are referring to.  The part I remember most was ‘Grace’.  LOL.  “I planted it, watered it, weeded it, and harvested it, but thanks anyway.”

    LOL, I loved Jimmy Stewart.

  • under_1perfectredumbrella

I look for her to run in 2016…by that time Trig will be as developed as he ever will be more than likely and her other children will all be grown.

  • Sweetrae aka: LeAnn

    I heard that also.

Is anyone listening to the between the lines kind of things Bill Clinton has been saying, LOL.

Anyone thing Hillary just might run this time?  If she doesn’t she will be pretty much finished age-wise.

  • Sweetrae aka: LeAnn

    You think she’ll challenge Obammy?

  • 1LonesomeDove1

It’s from the scene where he gives the future father-in-law talk to his daughter’s suitor. He asked him why he wanted to marry her, and the young man said he loved her. That’s when he said it wasn’t good enough, but did he “like” her.

  • deeme

Yeah my brother’s first two were likes but they were right in his lap likes…I’m going to go to hell for talking about the mother of my nephews that way and one of them the troubled teen ,was living with me for almost a year, he passed the Navy test and was three days from going off and he wrecked the Lexus we gave him , running from the cops for no reason, they tore that car up too , looking for something , they couldn’t believe he was that dum to run for no reason, he was on his way to church too..Now it’s two years probation. He was trying to please his grandpa by meeting him at church and he went to a friends house to play the drums and was running late so he was speeding..He is just one of those kids who marches to the beat of a different drum..
I agree with you on the like though because everything else goes away and you need to really like..My husband when we first started dating was a sort of hippy and my dad was not thrilled, but now my dad loves him as much as me because he can fix anything and is a real mans man..My sons the same way, his friends will kill him if he ever settles down.

    From Alaska to Arizona?

That’s like what this week is like in Chicago.  The hight today was 48.  It is going to be 87 Saturday.

LOL.  That will be a shock to their system for sure.

  • Sweetrae aka: LeAnn

I think the dyke’s presidential vision has faded away.

  • ^TDO^

    Ah, Yes now I remember.

    Great movie!!!

  • westoast

I don’t know… . Obama won in part because he is black. Maybe all those idiots who just want to cast a historic vote will want to vote for a woman now.

  • under_1perfectredumbrella

Who knows, all i can think of is if she does she will be running against the establishment in the Democratic party, you will recall that big secret meeting when the free for all Democratic convention was subverted by Soros and his money after that secret weekend when Soros hand picked Obama, now I cannot prove that is what happened but it is my genuine guess.

  • Sweetrae aka: LeAnn

I would say that’s a pretty educated guess and I agree with you. The “Spooky Dude” is just evil and delusional.

  • ^TDO^

I’m not too sure about that.  Obama has given the party a lot of black eyes lately and his handling of Israel is against the grain of a lot of Dems.  And most know it was Hill that pushed him both on UBL and Libya.  I could see her rerunning the 3am ad again.

  • deeme

I love that movie…they don’t make movies like that anymore..

My mom used to tell me that the secret to a happy marriage was learning how to compromise with out having to give yourself away.

I have much improved on the compromise part and a sense of humor and a bit of knowledge about knowing what is not worth fighting over has made a big difference and in my case bein lucky enough to be married to a kind and generous man who loves me completely with all of my flaws.

I pretty much think God put Mr. OK in my life.  I took a leap of faith and in about 10 days we will have another wonderful anniversary.

    I am truly lucky.

  • ^TDO^

I don’t see her having another chance after 2012.  She villified McCain for his age if you remember.  In 2016, she’ll be that age.

  • Sweetrae aka: LeAnn

You have to consider the one’s addicted to subsidies. I mean if the checks stop coming in, you know damn good and well they are gonna support Obama. They don’t know where the money comes from, maybe his stash, but dat’s why dey love him, Obama, Obama, Obama

  • Sweetrae aka: LeAnn

OH too bad for Hillary. So she either challenges Obama, or she can pretty much forget it.

  • under_1perfectredumbrella

Votes are cheap….the Dems are famous for ‘walk around money.’

  • ^TDO^

    OK,

That is kind of what I was talking about with my first post this week.  All men are assholes and all women are bitches.

Once you understand that there are certain ‘facets’ of being male or female, it is easier to avoid certain situations that lead to arguments.

In all honesty, I can never remember having an argument over anything trivial with my wife now.  With my other wives, I was arguing all the time it seemed like.

  • westoast

Thanks. I am very proud that I got so many “LIKES” in Joe7000s face. It shows that they are sick.

  • Paul Earth A.D.

Goodnight TDO, God Be With You.

  • Tony_Seco

    Goodnight Nick!

  • westoast

You did mention it yesterday. Thanks again!
Did you see the pharmaceutical ad I posted?

  • Tony_Seco

Should any of you see that Victor is back in next door, please let me know. I have a question to ask him.

  • Paul Earth A.D.

Aside from showing some wonderful insight on your part; that post also gave me a different insight into those who visit Pat’s Site. The number of likes it received showed me that Joe, his goons, and their hateful attitudes towards the Jewish people, are not at all the majority viewpoint there. Joe and his flock just happen to post the most. Why people who like Pat or visit that site allow Joe and his buddies to dominate that site with their childish language and Satanic hatred; I do not know.

  • Paul Earth A.D.

Did I mention it? I guess I forgot. Congrats again!

I didn’t see the ad, but I’ll check it out when I come back.

I’ll be back in about an hour.

  • Paul Earth A.D.

    Hi Lynn,

    How was your memorial day?

  • westoast

Sorry Lynn. I couldn’t help myself.

  • westoast

I don’t think he liked the Atomic cats song. I was working with the limited knowledge I have of Atomic cats.
