Ann Coulter Letter

Uncivil Unions

As Obama rakes in historic campaign contributions from Wall Street money, liberals claim Republicans are beholden to “the rich.” However that may be, it is far more true, and far less remarked upon, that the Democratic Party is the party of public sector unions.

And now, the nation watches helplessly as public sector unions and their Democratic allies say to Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker: Nice state you got there, governor. Be a shame if something bad happened to it.

For Democrats, the purpose of government is to generously provide jobs for people who otherwise couldn’t be hired — because their skills, attitude or sense of entitlement are considered undesirable in the private sector. And no, I’m not just talking about Barack Obama.

Democrats use taxpayer money to fund a government jobs program, impoverishing the middle class and harming the people allegedly helped by the programs — but creating a vast class of voters who owe their jobs to the Democrats.

This is a system designed to ratchet up costs. Look at the history of every entity where public employees have unionized, and you will find that not only are government workers paid more, but there are also a lot more of them doing a lot less useful work.

There could be two students per class, and the Democrats would still be campaigning for “smaller class size,” so that the government would be required to hire more public school teachers to staff classes with one student. For Democrats, the purpose of public education in this country is not to teach children; it’s to create jobs for “educators.”

Forget the nonsense about working men with dirt under their fingernails, slugging it out at dangerous jobs with a heartless management riding them to get more production at lower wages –- those guys are what liberal journalist Harold Meyerson calls “dead weight.”

We’re talking about government employees, most of whom — when they show up to work at all — sit in comfortable, air-conditioned offices, kick off at 3 p.m., are entitled to endless sick days, personal days and holidays, whose performance can never be evaluated and who retire at age 50. (Again, I’m not focusing just on Barack Obama here.)

Government employees are even worse than welfare layabouts. In a triple-whammy for the taxpayer, they are: (1) hideously expensive, (2) impossible to fire, and (3) doing things you don’t want done at any price.

Hey, guess what? I’m from the government, and I can burn down your garage for $300!

NO! I’M NOT INTERESTED!

OK, fine, I’ll do it for you for $20.

BUT I DON’T WANT MY GARAGE BURNED DOWN AT ANY PRICE!

OK, the guys with the matches and gasoline will be by sometime between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. one day next week.

As with so many other things, such as vegan restaurants and the crack epidemic, California leads the country in destruction by government unions.

California’s civil service unions have employed all the usual thug techniques –- regular strikes (illegal until the California Supreme Court approved them in 1985), rolling strikes, the “blue flu” (cops and other public-safety workers calling in “sick”) — all of which are almost as harmful to the state as when they actually show up for work.

While taxpayers groan under their tax burdens, one group of voters is constantly lobbying for higher taxes: government employees, who are paid by the taxpayer.

When California voters approved Proposition 13 back in 1978, cutting astronomical property taxes 57 percent, the public sector unions went ballistic.

Union bigwig Ron Coleman said, “We’re not going to just lie back and take it.”

John Seferian, vice president of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), said the union should have told politicians: “Hey, we’ll bring the roof down on you.” (Which you have to be a member of the roofers’ union to do.)

Jerry Wurf, president of AFSCME, warned that the union was “prepared for confrontation.”

His solution to the ballooning cost of government employees was … guess? That’s right, it was the same as it always is: Tax the rich.

“Let the big shots pay!” Wurf said. Embodying the hopes and dreams of our Founding Fathers, Wurf said organizing government employees was part of his goal to “remake the economic and political system” in line with the vision of socialist Norman Thomas and the Young People’s Socialist League.

Members of public sector unions see their pensions and benefits the way the Mafia views its “partnership” with a restaurant, as described in the movie “Goodfellas”: “Business bad? F–k you, pay me. Oh, you had a fire? F–k you, pay me. Place got hit by lightning, huh? F–k you, pay me.”

Spoiler alert: When the restaurant owner is unable to pay his mob tribute, they burn the place to the ground.

But government employees aren’t exactly like the mob. At least the Mafia guys have a strong work ethic.

Tony, I gotta an idea on how to move the lug-nut twister out of the “non-abled” group into the abled group. Just tell em it’s like the top of a wine bottle. Guaranteed to work everytime.

  • AustinAndy

The gist of your letter is that the retirements negotiated by the law enforcement officers in California were unrealistic and cannot be paid by the state which has no money and is broke.

So, what is the solution? Higher taxes in a state that leads almost all others in high taxation? Ever notice that the businesses and individuals are leaving because of the highest cost of living and most taxation? Not coincidentally, a state run by regressives into the economic dirt and a mecca for illegal immigrants.

California is exhibit one in how not to run a state!

  • Sweetrae aka: LeAnn

    Gee was I too subtle?

  • Tony_Seco

First, about your last paragraph. I know. The wide brush slops paint everywhere and some just don’t deserve it.

“it is cheaper to do that than to hire rookies, endure the astronomical training costs and suffer the inevitable law suits that rookie cops bring with them”.

The new get rich quick scheme. Sue!!!

“officers working beyond age 50 (it really is a young man’s sport) tended to have significantly greater chance of significant injury, and the workman’s comp claims and disability claims explode”.

The other side of not retiring young, and it’s due to the same BS insurance scheme that everyone has. Workers Comp is bankrupting corporations too. It’s because of the new get rich quick scheme… Sue!

Finally, I would like to mention that the 3@50 needs to be lowered, but really, PERS looked insolvent during the last economic downturn. It still has 23billion and will survive this as long as the economy turns around before too long.

Some time ago, I came across an observation about productivity in general, that 20% of working people accomplish what the remaining 80% do. So why is it that the same 20% end up paying 80% of the total taxes?

Yet, liberals everywhere fall nearly catatonically in demanding that those same highly productive people pay more and more taxes! Ann, I can’t wait for you to write something along those lines! =)

There has been some articles on the phenomenon called “normalcy bias” It has been defined as the belief that since something (usually quite negative) can’t happen here or to someone quite simply because it hasn’t yet. Our nation woke up from one such Normalcy bias trance on 9/11. One has to wonder what it will take for the progressives to wake up to the fact that socialism doesn’t work and is a means to an end to gain complete control over the lives of a given populace.

  • jas

    Up.

Ann probably saw the same thing I did in Wisconsin….

Firefighters in UNIFORM demonstrating along with other public sector employees, when they and the police department were exempted.

    That was blatant Union interference.

I agree with the rest of your splendid post.

The economy of California would work a whole lot better if the tax structure of the state were not so high. One of the reasons that the state is having trouble with its bills is that the public sector unions have a disproportionate say in who wins the elections (Democrats) and that the negotiated deals with those officials is skewed to a very high compensation. The solution to these officials is never to spend less, but to tax more. It is clear that other people’s money is no longer there to pay the bills, including retirement pensions and health care expenses written into contracts.

The state is broke and cannot pay its bills. That includes the costs to the state of medical and retirement plans negotiated in good faith with primarily Democrats who have a definite stake in keeping the unions happy at the expense of the California taxpayers.

My comment about the taxes is that the prevailing wisdom of the elected officials is that the state needs to impose higher taxes to meet their bills. I did not say that I agree with that; to the contrary, no fund will remain solvent if the economy does not turn around, and California so far as I can see is one of the most business unfriendly states. Not very nice to its taxpayers as well.

  • Sweetrae aka: LeAnn

Austin next election cycle they will not have a party based primary.

The two highest vote winners (regardless of party) will contend against one another in the General Election.

It is hard to see how they will ever rescue themselves. The two big population centers will always prevail.

It is very sad. I worked there in the 80s when California had the 6th largest economy in the WORLD…think about it one generation (thirty years) later the state has been trashed.

This can squarely be laid at the throne of the left and libertines and environmental whackos who have overrun the state.

They would let a rabid animal vote if it promised to vote with the left.

Well Ann, it seems as if more people here are responding to Tony’s addendum to you article which is really too bad … Tony’s piece IS well done but … maybe he should get his own space or column.

    More on point …

One of the things that I have found repeatedly among people who have been in “Public Service” is the fact that many of them have fulfilled their “Service Requirement” and RETIRED (receiving FULL retirement benefits) and then have gone on to land another job in the “Public Service Sector” and have begun to work towards a SECOND RETIREMENT.

I find this pretty sickening and this is definitely a Union thought process.

Perhaps the worst part of this whole process is that most of the people I know that have done or, are doing this, did almost nothing the first time around and are being rewarded for doing as little as possible the first time while they are repeating the process a second time.

Most of them are so stupid that they proudly boast of their raping of the system.

  • westoast

    Speaking of metaphors.

  • joe6pack

    Nah….I may be crazy,but I ain’t no fool!

  • Tony_Seco

I agree with you, except pensions. For workers that are “safety” (that means that you tend to die a lot on the job) you are excluded from social security. That means that the state does not pay social security money to the federal government and neither do you. That money is instead put into an Algore “lockbox” then Bush has it “privatized”. There are huge amounts of money in these funds. The state can not touch these funds in the lock box, and as long as the economy is moving along, the accounts runith over. When the economy looks grim then the margins turn downward intersecting with zero in XXX years. Sooner or later the economy looks up and so does the fund.

When the economy looks down, the government hasn’t let themselves as much room as the pension funds SO… They want that money! Not to take, but to borrow against (I hope). They start to claim that it’s mismanaged (just who has an extra few billion and who is needing it? So who is mismanaged?) Then the conservatives are happy to jump on that band wagon because it’s public sector employees.

Pensions are a red herring, at least in California. The problem is the pay and mostly for teachers 50% of the state budget is education.

I would also like to talk about reducing the pay and benefits of the welfare recipients. What do THEY do for you?

  • Sweetrae aka: LeAnn

The Continuing Media Narrative of ‘Acceptable’ Racism.

Dr. King once said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Apparently, US Attorney General Eric Holder didn’t get the memo.

As reported and applauded by Politico, Holder announced Tuesday that he was fed up with listening to whining whites who claim the justice department deliberately blocks investigations of black on white racism. Predictably, the Establishment media sides with Holder.

“Think about that,” Holder said. “When you compare what people endured in the South in the 60s to try to get the right to vote for African Americans, to compare what people subjected to that with what happened in Philadelphia, which was inappropriate .. .to describe it in those terms I think does a great disservice to people who put their lives on the line for my people,” said Holder, who is black.

No surprise there……Yeah… this is why Wyoming has constitutional carry….tread here on the innocent and be buried here. Every citizen should have the right to defend themself from thugs and home evasions or car jackings or purse snatchers or out right infringers.

That was a joke really…….and thank God there has only been one home evasion in Wyoming, a few young Indians and two whites broke in a robbed and killed a man in his 70s and were caught quickly and punished.

Not much crime here, everyone is armed and so is their vehicles when traveling the vast areas.

Some man from Kansas city came out here and tried to steal a young girl’s pickup on a private ranch she was home alone feeding horses when he approached and knocked her down and got into her pickup and started the truck and backed up and had his head notched with a cute 9mm that the girl had in her jacket.

No one claimed the body according to the paper. If that girl’s daddy caught him he would have begged the girl to shoot him.

This giver..ment is not going to protect people who are law abiding anymore than they are protecting our borders or the officers who work the borders.

OH but this is not racism according to the progressive media and the nose picking elites with body guards. Moral of the story is to just be armed and ready. The big poop has not hit the fan yet but I think it is coming one summer in the city..

People will come off the porch for your goodies and I hope I don’t hear any liberal socialist crying for help on the news because I don’t want to have an orgasm in my new chair..

I agree. CA has been demolished by Democratic rule.

The thing about public employees is that it is absolutely true that they will support and elect people that will in turn support them at taxpayer expense. Where Walker is getting it wrong in WI is the law of unintended consequences. You can limit the unions to negotiating just for salaries and impose benefits, but that doesn’t really change anything. What you consider when budgeting for a public employee is total package cost. If you curtail retirement contributions, they’ll just negotiate for more salary if they can still negotiate collectively at all.

As an example, there are are cities in CA that have GREAT benefits, but comparatively small salaries, and others that have no benefits whatsoever, but huge salaries. Union City, CA has no paid sick leave, no paid vacation, no personal leave, no proficiency pay, longevity pay, no health care, etc., etc., etc. But their base salary for cops is over 100k/yr. If you don’t come to work, you don’t get paid, so if you take a vacation, you’d better save for it, because you get no check while you are gone. The total cost of their package is actually a hair less to the city than other similar cities with less salary but paid benefits, because people tend to not abuse sick leave.

The agency I worked for was not unionized, but we did have an employee’s association represented by a law firm when it came to negotiating. Essentially, our total compensation package was based on an average of 15 (the eight top and seven bottom) similar-sized agencies in the state. We’d run a survey at every contract to find where we stood.

What should probably happen with public service employees is some kind of legal formulation for total compensation package should be worked out as a percentage of revenues, with the hiring entity being required to open the books at contract time. Incentives could be paid additionally for high-risk jobs or work areas or high cost of living areas, but the city (county. state, etc) would know exactly what percentage of their revenues were going to public service, and in theory should never be caught short.

Set the percentage by law, and make it high enough to attract good employees,so that they did well in good times, and had to sacrifice a bit in bad (but the sacrifice would be in proportion to that made by all citizens). Folks looking to work for the government would know what they were getting into, when they started, and wouldn’t have a bitch if the economy went south. In the good years, they could do better than average.

I think she just wants the insurance money.

1977: “Those of us in childhood during the war years were introduced to Hitler only as a caricature…Though Hitler was indeed racist and anti-Semitic to the core, a man who without compunction could commit murder and genocide, he was also an individual of great courage, a soldier’s soldier in the Great War, a leader steeped in the history of Europe, who possessed oratorical powers that could awe even those who despised him. But Hitler’s success was not based on his extraordinary gifts alone. His genius was an intuitive sense of the mushiness, the character flaws, the weakness masquerading as morality that was in the hearts of the statesmen who stood in his path.”

Buchanan- St. Louis Globe – Democrat, Aug 25, 1977

  • under_1perfectredumbrella

They have picked the wrong crew to have a war with.

Seems to me the guys in the white hats won….

joe, you guys are having too much fun over there. My favorite is Mr. Bowtie with the third grade education. He gave up Christianity so he could worship a meteorite and a pedophile. And he’s giving everyone advice. lol!!!!

  • Tony_Seco

Much of what the westboro wackos say is true, however, they are terribly misguided. As you indicated, they would do better to go to the source of the problems in DC and leave the soldiers alone.

  • ^TDO^

    Ah,

    The boring idiot strikes again.

Still haven’t answered the most important question about your conspiracy theory, Joe.

    WHY?

Everyone here has seen you dodge the question.

You might be able to fool your followers at Pat’s, but deflection and obfuscation is not an answer.

  • ^TDO^

    Joe,

    Not many Mormons here, LOL.

Go post that to the only mormon on Pat’s site and see if he gives a damn. We sure don’t. LOL

Should we do what you guys do at Pat’s and flag this as an inappropriate comment since we don’t agree with you on…

    Well just about everything.

  • joe6pack

What do you expect from a liar like Joe7000LIES?

That old guy is a joke.He can’t stop digging the hole he is in.

    In the meantime..

Maybe he can do some palm readings to make a few bucks.I hear the Huff Po types are into that sorta thing.

  • the_Gabe

I’m trying to “nudge” them in the right direction. If I get a reply I’ll post it here.

  • ^TDO^

Still afraid to answer the simple question I see.

Anyone who watches your reminders will see this post attached to it. Sorry but…

Why would the Israelis purposely attack a ship belonging to the only friend in the world they had.

    I await your answer.

Other people do read these comments, incidentally. They will see your dodges too. So keep exposing yourself, I love it, LOL.

I gave the Israeli pilot of the plane who told everyone it was an American ship your telephone number: when you get back from your Scientology study group session you’ll have a message from him giving you all the proof you’ll need to know that the attack on the USS Liberty was unprovoked, deliberate, devilishly planned and carried out with full knowledge that it was an American Naval ship.

Let me know how you feel after reading his message.

  • ^TDO^

    Joe,

That does not answer the question now does it? More dodging.

    WHY?

  • joe6pack

    Joedolf:Waaa Haaaa Haaa,Mommy Mommy!!

That man disagreed with my blatant anti-semitism!

Momma7000LIES:That’s ok,honey. You just flag him and go back to practicing your goose step!

So far as I know, this is the Ann Coulter blog: If your name isn’t Ann Coulter I suggest you try to force me off of this blog. It would be a typical Zionist action for you to do so….

Come to think of it, you do seem to express yourself as a woman: That’s perfectly permissible but you could at least admit that you’re a woman….

  • Tony_Seco

I reposted this on the master race site.

Excuse me HE, but I think you are screwing up by paying that racist, bigoted, isolationist Buchanan to write for you. Hell, why not hire Ron Paul so we can put up with a bunch of F—ing truthers invading this site.

PS I used more dashes then Ann.

  • joe6pack

    Whatever JOEDOLF!

You can still take your Joodoo back to the Nazi site. You will only get grief here.GOT IT,IDIOT?

    Go read your tarot cards,FOOL!

Hey…do ya think his JoeBOTS will all be wearing track suits and Nikes and cover their faces with purple scarves while they wait for the mother ship?

    AAHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAA!

  • ^TDO^

We could say the same thing about you on pat’s column, now can’t we? I have noticed a habit you have of thinking you can do or say anything but no one else can.

That was you that responded that you had flagged all those posts on Pat’s column, was it not?

  • joe6pack

Well said, but be careful what you wish for.If it wasn’t for the STOOOOPID JoeBOTS coming over here and stirring our nest,we would not have to smell the greasy old nazi that is here now.

  • joe6pack

I was going to mention that Joedolf seems to dominate the threads over there with page long boring azz c/p of hatred, but we can’t have our own place here where we do not appreciate his hatred.

    Is Joedolf a Hypocrite?

    Me thinks so!

That beach ball looking head of yours would make a fine target for my compound bow.I am surprised you can stay on the ground with the amount of hot pungent air that fills that vacuous plastic head of yours.

Do you have to be here crying like a girl with a broken nail or busted strap on her high heel?

Sweaty Teddy don’t cotton to nancy boys and whiney little girls like you.

Go change your diaper and Take your Risperdal!

Go away ya old bag lady!

  • Tony_Seco

Imagine if you will, an old man, left alone with his computer. Shunned by old friends, avoided by his family. He spews his putrid hate and discontent onto the internet.

There’s a sign up ahead in the distance. You’ve just crossed the Gonzone!

  • ^TDO^

    The gonzone. hahahahahaha.

    I luver it!!

This Joe7000 is a typical progressive puke. Same MO as any other progressive:

“Hey, I’m smarter than all of you put together!”

When everyone laughs at him he moves on to:

“Hey, I’m tougher than all of you put together, I’ll keeeeeeel you!”

As the laughter refuses to abate, he falls back on:

“Are you threatening me? I’ll call the police, I swear I will!”

Then he says he’s leaving forever but somehow always comes back. What a pussy, where’s the geezer?

  • ^TDO^

I just posted his last (or should I say final) post on Pat’s site. LOL

  • Paul Earth A.D.

I do believe that you have something there Watson! (Seriously)

Almost everything Joe says is mocking of Christianity, hateful towards the Jew, and in praise of the Muslim and Islam.

Whatever Joe 7000 is; he’s definitely a sympathizer of stupidity and hatred.

  • joe6pack

    BU BYE YA JACK BOOT!

    BACK TO NAZILAND WITH YOU!

The song that silenced the cappuccino machine

It was chilly in Manhattan but warm inside the Starbucks shop on 51st Street and Broadway, just a skip up from Times Square . Early November weather in New York City holds only the slightest hint of the bitter chill of late December and January, but it’s enough to send the masses crowding indoors to vie for available space and warmth.

For a musician, it’s the most lucrative Starbucks location in the world, I’m told, and consequently, the tips can be substantial if you play your tunes right. Apparently, we were striking all the right chords that night, because our basket was almost overflowing. It was a fun, low-pressure gig – I was playing keyboard and singing backup for my friend who also added rhythm with an arsenal of percussion instruments. We mostly did pop songs from the ’40s to the ’90s with a few original tunes thrown in. During our emotional rendition of the classic, “If You Don’t Know Me by Now,” I noticed a lady sitting in one of the lounge chairs across from me. She was swaying to the beat and singing along.

After the tune was over, she approached me. “I apologize for singing along on that song. Did it bother you?” she asked. “No,” I replied. “We love it when the audience joins in. Would you like to sing up front on the next selection?”

To my delight, she accepted my invitation.. “You choose,” I said. “What are you in the mood to sing?”

“Well. … do you know any hymns?”

Hymns? This woman didn’t know who she was dealing with. I cut my teeth on hymns. Before I was even born, I was going to church. I gave our guest singer a knowing look. “Name one.”

“Oh, I don’t know. There are so many good ones. You pick one.”

“Okay,” I replied. “How about ‘His Eye is on the Sparrow’?”

My new friend was silent, her eyes averted. Then she fixed her eyes on mine again and said, “Yeah. Let’s do that one.” She slowly nodded her head, put down her purse, straightened her jacket and faced the center of the shop. With my two-bar setup, she began to sing.

Why should I be discouraged? Why should the shadows come?

The audience of coffee drinkers was transfixed. Even the gurgling noises of the cappuccino machine ceased as the employees stopped what they were doing to listen. The song rose to its conclusion.

I sing because I’m happy; I sing because I’m free. For His eye is on the sparrow And I know He watches me.

When the last note was sung, the applause crescendoed to a deafening roar that would have rivaled a sold-out crowd at Carnegie Hall. Embarrassed, the woman tried to shout over the din, “Oh, y’all go back to your coffee! I didn’t come in here to do a concert! I just came in here to get somethin’ to drink, just like you!” But the ovation continued..

I embraced my new friend. “You, my dear, have made my whole year! That was beautiful!”

“Well, it’s funny that you picked that particular hymn,” she said.

    “Why is that?”

“Well . . .” she hesitated again, “that was my daughter’s favorite song.”

    “Really!” I exclaimed.

“Yes,” she said, and then grabbed my hands. By this time, the applause had subsided and it was business as usual. “She was 16. She died of a brain tumor last week.”

I said the first thing that found its way through my stunned silence. “Are you going to be okay?”

She smiled through tear-filled eyes and squeezed my hands. “I’m gonna be okay. I’ve just got to keep trusting the Lord and singing his songs, and everything’s gonna be just fine.” She picked up her bag, gave me her card, and then she was gone.

Was it just a coincidence that we happened to be singing in that particular coffee shop on that particular November night? Coincidence that this wonderful lady just happened to walk into that particular shop? Coincidence that of all the hymns to choose from, I just happened to pick the very hymn that was the favorite of her daughter, who had died just the week before? I refuse to believe it.

God has been arranging encounters in human history since the beginning of time, and it’s no stretch for me to imagine that God could reach into a coffee shop in midtown Manhattan and turn an ordinary gig into a revival. It was a great reminder that if we keep trusting God and singing the songs, everything’s gonna be okay.

The next time you feel like GOD can’t use YOU, just remember…

    Noah was a drunk

    Abraham was too old

    Isaac was a daydreamer

    Jacob was a liar

    Leah was ugly

    Joseph was abused

    Moses had a stuttering problem

    Gideon was afraid

Sampson had long hair and was a womanizer

    Rahab was a prostitute

Jeremiah and Timothy were too young

David had an affair and was a murderer

    Elijah was suicidal

    Isaiah preached naked

    Jonah ran from God

    Naomi was a widow

    Job went bankrupt

    John the Baptist ate bugs

    Peter denied Christ

The Disciples fell asleep while praying

    Martha worried about everything

The Samaritan woman was divorced, more than once

    Zaccheus was too small

    Paul was too religious

    Timothy had an ulcer…

    AND Lazarus was dead!

No more excuses now!! God can use you to your full potential. Besides you aren’t the message, you are just the messenger.

I have been a government employee for less than 6 years. The pay grades along with benefit packages for the many of the government employees (some counties, large cities, some state agencies & many federal agencies) greatly exceed what the majority of taxpayers can ever hope to have. Government employees at all levels do NOT deserve rich benefits. The middle class taxpayers bear the brunt of the expense & it is time for the union to STOP robbing the taxpayers.

The only possible exception may be the teachers – since many purchase supplies for the students even though a “school tax” is levied on property owners & the state lotteries are supposed to be used for education??! The down side is that teacher unions MUST GO since the only thing the unions have ensured is that the worst teachers in the system have a guaranteed job due to tenure. The teachers union does NOT have the best interest of our children in mind – the unions’ single-minded goal is to ensure the continuation of the never ending gravy train funded by middleclass taxpayers.

Honest/hardworking government employee is an oxymoron.

The reality is that many incompetent, dishonest firefighters, police and/or corrections officers have been terminated for cause and would NEVER be reinstated if they did not have unions. Arrested for domestic violence, steroid use, fraud, etc. – Internal Affairs sits on the investigation so the records can not be made public as long as it is an “open” case. The State Attorneys Office is also PUBLIC service. IF charges are filed with SAO, they typically do not prosecute.

The public/taxpayers have no idea how much of their hard earned tax dollars is pocketed by marginal, substandard public safety employees that would NOT have a job in private sector. 90% terminated for cause are reinstatement – the arbitration agreement directs the employer (funded by taxpayers) to make the reinstated employee whole – thousands in regular pay, “special” pay, retirement & benefits as well as accrued seniority, vacation, sick time for the period of time they did not work. The UNION supports/assists the terminated employee in the process. Of course these very same unions also contribute to political campaigns, endorse candidates, “volunteer” to work the polls, etc. (“Quid pro quo”… maybe… definitely…)

Better yet – what about the “disabled” firefighter that can not perform all essential duties as a FIREFIGHTER but CAN work – just not as a firefighter. They do not qualify for disability retirement & they certainly do not qualify for Social Security Disability. Guess what – because of unions & arbitration, taxpayers are often required to pay them an amount equal to what they are ENTITLED to IF they were qualified to RETIRE as DISABLED. These same “disabled” leeches ALSO work and/or run their own personal businesses. As if THAT isn’t insulting enough – often times taxpayers also pay 100% of their health insurance premium!!!!

Too bad public employers seldom verify that the potential employee is NOT DISABLED from public safety agencies in other states. What makes this worse is once they are hired – the firefighter, cop, etc. almost immediately end up with an on the job injury. Taxpayers now pay for the Workers Compensation (medical care, weekly benefit & lifetime care) – not to mention ANOTHER nontaxable retirement benefit for an in-line-of-duty injury!!

911 was an event that I hope never happens again. It was tragic and life altering, however the ALL public safety UNIONS capitalized on this event. It was the ultimate example of extreme risk they face EVERYDAY! The unions leveraged the drama to obtain “special risk” retirement benefits, special pay, new certifications (requiring extra pay), take home vehicles so they could respond sooner, driving of government vehicles during off duty hours so they could respond sooner, 24 hour shifts (fire) with 2 days on/3 days off so they would be able to provide continuity when responding in an emergency without changing personnel/shifts (apparently nothings lasts over 24 hours??), incentive pay, longevity pay, COLA, automatic merit increases…

All the above should explain why PUBLIC EMPLOYEES & UNION OFFICIALS do NOT want the unions disbanded and why private sector TAXPAYERS must do whatever it takes to remove the corrupt leeches sucking the middle class dry.

UR2Funny: Thank you for talking about me and increasing my presence. Here’s a poem I hope you’ll like (it’s not like many other poems you’ve seen):

    A MAN

    A man makes his own way;
He sees things as they are.
    Others’ desires cloud their understanding;
A man sees what they don’t see.
The constant swaying of events have no hold over him,
so his mind is unencumbered by what confuses others.
    He has reached this point because he has discipline & perseverance;
He kept his commitments and practiced and practiced the tasks he took on,
until he got them right, so now confidence permeates him.

He is not afraid. Fear has no value for him.
    Others may say things to shake him;
They know how to take people’s hope.
They’ll tell him things they know he can’t stand to hear,
Like he will never amount to anything or he is a failure.
He just smiles. A man determines his own fate.
No one can make him believe what he knows is not true.

A man doesn’t complain. He’d rather improve himself and if he can’t do that,
He sees little value in trying to improve someone else.
He is a man and values his own opinion most because he has paid his dues
and learned what he needed to know.
    He has assumed his place in the world and is not worried about anyone taking it;
He will always have something to give.
A man focuses on himself; the only person he can really know.
He knows we can’t be sure of anything in this world.
All we can do is believe in ourselves.

    Ken 3/5,6/11

I think I will never see

A man who resembles a tree

    Unless that man

    Is not a bumble bee

    But

Has a big ol’ chunk of bark for a brain

    Like me

    You see

    A tree is not free

    Like me

    Because a tree has roots

    Instead of foots

    Like me

If I ever saw a mantree

    I would scream

    Like a banshee

    Because of fear

I would not hold that mantree dear

Nor would I drink a beer

Nor would I molest a dear

I’d put my Schwinn into gear

    And steer clear

    Of that mantree

    The end
